Located in Tope Mahal – from the ramparts of which cannons were intended to be fired, the vaulted suite of Gautam Mahal honours the unconventional architecture and designs as well as the out-of-the-box writing of Gautam Bhatia. His original trajectory on all matters brought him to the notice of a long Indian Architectural practice, used more to conformity than freedom. His satirical writing born from cutting-edge thinking, brought fresh air to the profession’s norms of appraisal, as the suite also represents. It comprises of two and a half monastic cloisters with flat, vaulted roofs. Leading out to a long verandah and a private garden with flowering shrubs and trees, this is a quiet haven conveniently located at the centre of the vast Tijara Fort-Palace. These spaces may have been built for craftspersons or even as royal stables which were never used since the building remained incomplete. The rooms have views on the hanging gardens and catch the breeze from the shaded trees of the Boulevard below. The first room has an Indian-style baithak with bolsters as well as a divan/bed while the central room has a double bed. Ideal for a small family.
