Wallwood Garden was built over a hundred years ago by a Scottish Major General from the village of Blair Atholl, and was originally called Blair Atholl. It was sold to a British couple after the First World War, who ran it as a boarding house, and was bought by Liptons before the Second World War. The property has stayed in the hands of tea companies ever since, and is currently with Matheson Bosanquet.

The Scottish Major General who built the house came from Blair Atholl in Scotland and named his Coonoor home after it. The name changed to Wallwood under later owners.

Liptons bought the house before the Second World War, and it has remained with tea companies since then. That ownership is why the mansion still reads as a tea estate residence.

The Pomological Garden at Coonoor is one of 3 experimental fruit gardens run as research centres by the State Agricultural Department. It lies roughly 10 minutes from the property.
