MAHARAJA BHUPINDER SINGH

This suite is named after the most famous Maharaja of Patiala of the 20th century both in India and abroad. Maharaja Bhupinder Singh was the son of Maharaja Rajinder Singh and became Maharaja at the age of nine. He served in World War I, the Afghan War in 1919, represented India at the League of Nations and captained the Indian cricket team to tour in England. He also possessed what is now one of the world’s largest collections of Medals and Decoration (3200 in number). These are displayed at the Medals Gallery in the Sheesh Mahal at Patiala. He was best known for his extravagance which included a consort of women, and was the proud owner of the world famous necklace “The Patiala Necklace” manufactured by the famous brand Cartier SA.
