Testimonials: The Bungalow on the Beach

Beautiful beach Bungalow
We came with family and small kids. The trip was totally fantastic. The hotel has a beautiful sea view. The night view of the sea from my room was mesmerising. All the staff was cordial and welcoming. Mr.Senthil Kumar was very warm and helpful throughout the trip. He made us feel like a native of that place.

Irresistible charm in this village full of history

The night spent in this establishment was the most favourite during our stay in Tamil Nadu. We do not sleep every day in the former residence of the British governor. The hotel is ideally located, on the beach and opposite to the Dansborg Fort. The terrace, which makes up the whole of the 1st floor, offers everyone a quiet and spacious space. We greatly appreciated the large swimming pool and the restaurant area. The staff was very attentive and friendly.

Amazing experience and stay!!

This was one of my stops on my 2 week trip to Tamilnadu, karnataka. This hotel was on my bucket list . I would have changed my travel dates if I couldn't stay here.
The hotel was once a British Bungalow in Tharangambadi which is a small town in the bay of bengal. All tourist sites are centrally located and at a walking distance. There are only 8 rooms so it gets booked very quickly. It’s truly an experience to stay here and feel rejuvenated after travelling through the congestion of chennai and bangalore.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in my room which had 15 feet tall doors. The rooms are huge with an old world charm like the most heritage properties in India. You can chill in the balcony during morning , afternoon, or evening. The views are amazing, Danish fort to the right and Shiva temple to left.
Breakfast was included and decent, I recommend eating here for dinner as well, as not many restaurant options are around. Food was well prepared too.
The staff complimented the stay very well as they were very professional and kind.
I'm so glad that I stayed here, and a highlight of my 2 week trip!

"I am writing you to thank you for the recent service we received and to ask for help. My family recently had the pleasure of dining at the Bungalow on the Beach property in Tranquebar, Tamil Nadu. I can honestly say that I had the best dish I have ever eating in my one year living and traveling around India. The chef, Bharthi, made us an amazing bowl o Tharagambadi Fish Curry. I am writing both the let you know of the great work your employ is doing and to request help getting the recipe. Unfortunately, my Tamil is non-existent and I was unable to ask Bharthi for the recipe. Is there anyway to have someone help me retrieve it? I would be most grateful.
Thank for preserving the history and grandeur of these wonderful properties and for the wonderful service."

“The building is as much an example of intelligent conservation as it is an evocation of the past, using as it does a minimum of carefully chosen vintage furniture, paintings and artefacts.”

- Outlook Traveller Getaways

“The Bungalow on the Beach is perched stunningly on the beach, with the sea just a stone’s throw away. From the fabulous first-floor balcony you get uninterrupted views of the sea and the sky and the imposing fort across the road. And total peace and quiet. Tranquebar is a tranquil place, and now the Neemrana Resort gives you a great staying option here, making for a perfect weekend break.”

- Vaishna Roy in Beach Holidays in India

“As always, this Neemrana property impressed us thoroughly. This quaint fishing village, the sprawling property surrounded by the lifting and character-filled whiff of fresh catch has been reminiscent of family getaway of yore.
The beach is unassuming yet adventurous. The temple and fort evocate of an era gone by and the people content beyond urban reason.
My wife and I are en-route to yet another property in Pondicherry but this little white house with breezy verandahs and frangipanni scented air has made a place in our hearts.
We will miss this colonial outpost and hope to return some day. With best wishes and many thanks.”

“As with all magic the audience wonders – “How did they do it?” So it is with the restoration of the Tranquebar “Bungalow” and “Gate House”.
What elegant properties with so much attention to detail – the heritage tower, bolts, the awesome door hinges, the heritage sink, toilet pan, the chairs – just everything.
My only regret – that I had only half a day to spend at a place which calls for a week’s stay. And yes the food – superb.”

- Parvez Dewan, Former Chairman ITDC , New Delhi, India

“This is a terrific property, a great respite from the hustle and bustle of Southern India. It is an idyllic location in a sleepy town seemingly in a time warp. The staff here are generally friendly and helpful and the pool is in great condition. We had a wonderful stay here.”

- Peter Mc Millan, Bathurst, Australia

“We very much enjoyed our stay at the tranquil Bungalow on the Beach. The staff’s hospitality and helpfulness stood out. They went at great lengths to make our stay a real pleasure.
I also would like to write a word of praise for the kitchen staff. The menu is varied and everything we tried was very tasty. I specially recommend the Chef’s beetroot halva.
A memorable place, to be recommended for all those who want to escape from India’s hustle-bustle.”

- Isabelle, Marco, & Sofia Riggio-Bermijm, Belgium

“This Neemrana property is the piece-de-resistance of all their stunning “non- hotel” Hotels. As always the ambience, room décor, attention to detail and the exemplary staff and management are most memorable. Would love to come back.”

- Yogi Vaid with Alka, Divya, Ambar, Faridabad, Delhi, India

“A very enjoyable stay. The ideal place to stay whilst working in the area. Returning to the peace and quiet after a busy day with only the sound of the sea. With pleasant and helpful staff always on hand for your assistance. Also excellent food to enjoy every day and served with a smile. I will return.”

- Michael Simpson, Fareham Hants, United Kingdom

“Wonderful place and extremely helpful staff. The cook made special dishes on request which was much appreciated. Thank You.”

- Soumiya, Chennai, India

“A lovely place to stay- very relaxing. The rooms are thoroughly appointed, the staff is outstanding, the food is delicious. We stayed for 3 days and would have loved a longer stay. I’ve stayed at the Neemrana hotel in Pondicherry and this compares very well. Thank you for a wonderful weekend.”

- Vibha Pinglé, India

“We had a lovely time in this very cool relaxing bungalow on the beach! It was very nice to be able to come back and relax after a long day in the sun. We, a family of 6, found it just perfect!
P.S. The food was amazing at the Non-hotel hotel! xo"

“Our second visit to Tranquebar inspired in us by reading Georgina Harding’s “Tranquebar- A season in the South”. We have enjoyed number 5 Goldsmith Street, and good to see the house so sympathetically restored, with helpful but un-intrusive staff. “The Bungalow on the Beach” by contrast is more of a Colonial/Western enclave with the exclusivity to match! Us poorer tourists prefer the integrity of the Nayaks!”

- Ella Hoir, Edinburh, Scotland

We a family of 28 came here for New Year. WOW! What a wonderful time we all had! The saltish smell of the sea! The waves dripping with foam! The Bungalow on the Beach, The Nayak House and the Hotel Tamil Nadu! Lovely!
Thanks to all the staff! Food was delicious! We’d love to come back again.

Colonial heritage and beautiful nature all at one place

Bungalow on the Beach was literally a mini heaven on earth. The location of this British heritage non hotel in Tarangambadi is such that on one side, there is Fort Dansborg and in the middle is the roaring Bay of Bengal and on the left side is the ancient Masilanaathar shore temple ...the view is out of the world .The room had ocean front view balcony...which was almost unreal...fantastic. We were there to welcome the New Year. It was raining adding beauty to the Bungalow. The rooms had upscale interior decor with tastefully chosen linens with beautiful hues.It was inviting. The food was great. The staff was gracious and accomodating. They were caring and understanding. The magic of Bungalow on the Beach is the old world charm with heritage and history, nature and hospitality.

Memorable stay
The amazing location with 180 degree view of the sea make you realize how well- named Thatangamvadi (place of singing waves) is the waves dance too, by the way. The unique picturesqueness of this historic and skillfully renovated bungalow is matched by the fantastic service given by manager Deepak and his team the chef went out of his way to cater to requests. So all this and made our anniversary truly memorable

Finest Heritage Property.
Finest Heritage Hospitality. A warm welcome by Mr Deepak had us smiling and we knew we would be comfortable and taken care of. Right from our booking through with the central reservation till our arrival at the hotel to our departure, everything was smooth and simply fabulous. We are truly grateful to Mr Anbu and Mr Deepak and the entire team who handled our entire stay and made it the bestest one with wonderful and cute moments, specially taking care of my mother and making sure she was comfortable. Thankful and very grateful to Mr. Deepak who gave us such insightful information about this lovely small town which was by the beach and what we could explore. A lovely relaxed break at this amazing hotel which is located by the beach and opposite the Danish fort.

A calm in the chaos
Discovering the centuries of history experienced with modern comfort, Tranquebar took great care during our visit and proves to be a quiet retreat for relaxation. Neemrana doesn't allow day travelers to dine there as it is only open for residents. After speaking to the sales team at Neemrana Hotels - they got me and my friend’s special permission to dine there. The hotel manager Anbu was very sweet. He took care of us so well. I really appreciate Neemrana Team for making this lunch such a memorable one. Anbu also gave us a property tour - the property is definitely a calm away from the daily busy chaotic city life. Just by the beach - it is a perfect getaway with the most scenic view. The team was sweet and served us with so much love. The fresh watermelon juice was the perfect pick.

Great colonial style stay
Very good room in a bungalow on the sea shore with excellent sea view. Looked similar to old zamindari bungalows. Nice service by the staff and food was excellent. Swimming pool and the adjacent open air restaurant was very pleasing and the pets like Squirrels running around our table for eatables and we had great pleasure of feeding them directly.
